Baze Back In Saddle Thursday, Will ‘Ride The Card’ At Golden Gate Fields

     Russell Baze, who took off his mounts last Sunday due to a bruised left knee, will be back in the saddle Thursday when racing resumes at Golden Gate Fields. 

     Post time is 12:45 p.m. and Baze is scheduled to “ride the card” as he has mounts in all seven races.  Baze, the winningest jockey in North American racing history with 11,878 career victories, tops the rider standings at Golden Gate Fields’ 2012-2013
winter/spring meeting with 74 wins.  Dennis Carr is second with 54 victories.

Moonshine Bay Triumphs In Sprint Feature

     Moonshine Bay, runner-up in the Albany Stakes on Feb. 18, came from just off the pace to win the $32,774 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.

     Enjoying a perfect trip under jockey Dennis Carr, Moonshine Bay overhauled longshot pacesetter Platinum Rules at the top of the stretch and then held off hard-charging Soldiers Point to score by three-quarters of a length in the six-furlong allowance race for older horses.  Morning Fog finished third.

Hidinginplainsight Runs Away And Hides In Camilla Urso

     Hidinginplainsight, with substitute jockey William Antongeorgi III in the saddle, posted a front-running victory in the $51,650 Camilla Urso Stakes at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.

     Antongeorgi picked up the mount on Hidinginplainsight when the filly’s scheduled rider, Southern California-based Aaron Gryder, couldn’t make it to Golden Gate Fields due to travel issues.  

Camilla Urso Stakes Provides Tough Test For Handicappers

     How wide open is Saturday’s $50,000-added Camilla Urso Stakes at Golden Gate Fields?  Six of the eight entrants in the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares are 6-1 or less on the morning line.

     The lukewarm 3-1 favorite is English Royal and she’s followed by Rowdy Gal at 7-2 and Distinctive Yolie at 4-1.  Hidinginplainsight is 9-2 while Cathy’s Crunches and I’m Tops are both 6-1.  The two outsiders in the field at 15-1 are Sweetly Peppered and Madoffwiththemoney.

Bruised Jockey Cedillo Bounces Back With Riding Double

     Jockey Abel Cedillo, bruised in a fall last Saturday at Golden Gate Fields, returned to the saddle Thursday and rode a pair of winners.

     Cedillo went down in the seventh race last Saturday when his mount, Deraptor, clipped heels and fell in the stretch.  While Deraptor picked himself up and walked back to the barn, Cedillo needed assistance from medical personnel. 

Cathy’s Crunches Supplemented To Camilla Urso

     Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer has decided to start his multiple stakes-winning mare Cathy’s Crunches in the $50,000-added Camilla Urso Stakes at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.
     Cathy’s Crunches was not originally nominated to the Camilla Urso, however, Hollendorfer made her eligible for the six-furlong feature by paying $150 in fees – a $100 supplementary nomination fee and a $50 entry fee – at entry time Wednesday morning.

Jersey’s Soul Scores Again At Golden Gate Fields

     Jersey’s Soul followed up an impressive maiden win with another smart come-from-behind victory Sunday in the $31,962 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields.

     Jersey’s Soul, receiving a fine ride from jockey Dennis Carr, rallied from last in a field of seven to defeat even-money favorite Habit Forming by three-quarters of a length in the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares.  

My Lil Shamrock Wires Rivals In Mile Feature

     My Lil Shamrock, a 3-year-old filly owned by Irishman Daniel O’Neill of San Francisco, posted a front-running victory in the one-mile feature race at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.

     My Lil Shamrock was sent straight to the lead by jockey Frank Alvarado and opened up a clear advantage on the backstretch.  My Lil Shamrock had her rivals stacked up behind her entering the stretch and then spurted away in the final furlong to score by
4 1/2 lengths.

Hot Hernandez Records Riding Triple

     Jockey Juan Hernandez boosted his winning percentage at the 2012-2013 winter/spring meeting to 23.2 when he scored with three of his seven mounts Friday at Golden Gate Fields.

     Hernandez took the first race with South Forty ($7.00), the fifth with Bottle Blonde ($13.80), and the sixth with Clever Cayenne ($4.20).  Hernandez deserves extra credit for his win with South Forty as the 4-year-old gelding had failed to break his maiden in 26 previous attempts.

Sharp Lady Aspen Scores Again At Golden Gate Fields

     Lady Aspen recorded her third victory in her last four starts when she charged from off the pace to defeat even-money favorite Luscious Lonna by a half-length in the $35,972 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.

     Lady Aspen, who had defeated Luscious Lonna by 2 1/2 lengths in a one-mile turf race on Jan. 4, went off at an overlay price of 5-1 in Thursday’s 1 1/16-mile contest on Tapeta and paid $12.00 to win.  Jockey William Antongeorgi III rode Lady Aspen, who was timed in 1:48.56.
