Golden Gate Fields Announces Addition Of Overnight Sprint Stakes

     Golden Gate Fields racing secretary David Jerkens announced Friday that an overnight sprint stakes has been added to the stakes schedule for the track’s 2011-2012 winter/spring meeting.

     The $50,000-added Albany, a six-furlong contest for 4-year-olds and up, will be run on Saturday, Jan. 28.  Nominations for the Albany, which will also offer bonus money of up to $15,000 for California-b red runners, close Thursday, Jan. 19.

Trujillo Gets First Training Victory

     Victor Trujillo, saddling just his second horse as a head trainer, earned his first career training victory Friday at Golden Gate Fields when his 3-year-old gelding Floating Feather won the fourth race.

Trainer Chuck Jenda Calls It A Career

     Chuck Jenda, who conditioned Northern California’s first Eclipse Award winner, Brown Bess, has retired from training after a successful 36-year career.

Holiday Racing At GGF Resumes Today

     Holiday racing at Golden Gate Fields resumes Thursday and will continue through Monday, Jan. 2.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. each day.

Trainer Sherman Starts New Meet By Saddling Three Winners

     Golden Gate Fields opened its 2011-2012 winter/spring meeting Monday and trainer Steve Sherman was clearly the star of the opening-day program.

    Sherman saddled the winner of the first two races of the 101-day season and completed a training triple when he captured the fourth race.

Gates open at 10. a.m. with the first post coming at 12:15 p.m.
 
Golden Gate Fields is dark for the two days following the Winter Meet opening, but returns on Thursday before kicking off a weekend of quality entertainment.
 

Golden Gate Fields Opens 2011-2012 Winter/Spring Meeting Monday

     Golden Gate Fields has something for horse racing fans to open the day after Christmas – a brand new racing season.

     Golden Gate Fields will kick off its 2011-2012 winter/spring meeting with a nine-race card Monday.  Post time is 12:15 p.m.  Monday is also opening day at Golden Gate Fields’ sister track in Southern California, Santa Anita, and first post at the Arcadia oval is noon.

Golden Gate Fields Realized Double Digit Increases In On-Track Averages At 2011 Fall Meeting

     Golden Gate Fields realized double-digit increases in both its average daily on-track handle and average daily on-track attendance during its 2011 fall meeting, a 36-day session that ran from Oct. 20 through Dec. 18.

Alvarado, Gryder, Cedillo Win Pair On Final Day Of Fall Meeting

     Jockeys Frank Alvarado, Aaron Gryder and Abel Cedillo all rode a pair of winners on the closing-day card of the 2011 fall meeting at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.
 
     Alvarado took the first race with Soul Patch ($9.80) and the seventh with 8-to-5 favorite Moose Shootin Moma ($5.40), a filly who had failed as the favorite in her previous eight starts.  Alvarado finished fourth in the jockey standings by recording 30 victories at the 36-day fall session.
