One of the most curious San Francisco sights meshes with one of the most fun things to do in San Francisco on Oct. 22 when Golden Gate Fields hosts Dog Day at the Races, and fans can get a jumpstart on the event in a contest that offers great prizes.

Between now and October 17, 2011, Golden Gate Fields is inviting Bay Area residents to enter its Facebook Photo Contest with the chance to win prizes like a day at the races or a fleece blanket.

Trainer Sherman Has Two-Win Lead Heading Into Sunday’s Finale At GGF

     Trainer Steve Sherman saddled two winners Saturday at Golden Gate Fields and enters Sunday’s closing-day card with a two-victory advantage over Jerry Hollendorfer.

     Sherman leads Hollendorfer 17-15 in victories and is scheduled to start five horses during the 10-race finale of the summer meeting, including a pair of runners in both the third and eighth races.  

Beato Rides Three Winners At GGF; Sherman Alone Atop Trainer Standings

     Jockey Inoel Beato won with a 16-to-1 outsider and two favorites Friday at Golden Gate Fields to record a riding hat trick.

     Beato scored a front-running victory in the first race with Bakers Beach, who defeated 8-to-5 favorite Trapper’s Bounty by a neck in the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares.  By far the largest price in a field of five, Bakers Beach paid $34.40.

Front-Runner Friday Brings out the Fans

     Golden Gate Fields’ “Front-Runner Friday” promotion, which offered free admission to people that admitted they were bandwagon fans of the 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants and also encouraged fans to donate Giants apparel in exchange for two Turf Club passes, was a fun and successful event.

Hernandez Has Riding Hat Trick At GGF; Tribesman Looms Heavy Favorite Sunday

     Jockey Juan Hernandez followed up his riding double on Friday at Golden Gate Fields with a riding triple Saturday at the East Bay racetrack.

     Hernandez scored with two price horses and a favorite.  He won the second race with Distant Image ($24.00), the seventh with Gotnaceupersleeve ($12.80), and the eighth with Dancing Yodeler ($5.20).
