Jockey Couton Rides A Pair Of Longshot Winners At GGF

     While some fans lit up cigars Sunday at Golden Gate Fields, French jockey Julien Couton chose to light up the tote board.

     Couton won the one-mile fourth race in wire-to-wire fashion with 8-to-1 shot She Laughs an Flys ($19.40), who just held off Rachel Raccoon to score by a nose.  

Alvarado, Mawing, Josephson, All Win A Pair Of Races

     Jockeys Frank Alvarado and Leslie Mawing and trainer Jedd Josephson all won a pair of races at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.

     Alvarado won the first and last races on the card, taking the opener with Woodpulp ($6.80) and the ninth with Lornefivehundred ($6.60).

     Mawing scored his victories in back-to-back races, taking the second with Bert’ N the Group ($5.60) and the third with Take That ($5.60).

Sharp Chukchi Sunrise Captures Sprint Feature

     The sharp 6-year-old mare Chukchi Sunrise recorded her second straight victory Friday at Golden Gate Fields when she posted a front-running score in the $29,400 allowance feature.

     Chukchi Sunrise turned back a challenge from English Royal on the turn and went on to win the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares by 2 1/4 lengths over Big Honey Bee.  English Royal finished third.

Skipshot Edges Live Sundays At GGF To End Long Victory Drought

     Skipshot put an end to a long victory drought when he ran down pacesetter Live Sundays in the final strides to win the $41,070 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.

     Skipshot, receiving a strong ride from jockey Frank Alvarado, prevailed by a head over Live Sundays in the one-mile race for older horses.  The victory was Skipshot’s first since July 17, 2010, when he captured the Grade 2 Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park by a head over Sidney’s Candy.

Streaky Weekend For Alvarado Ends With Riding Hat Trick

     Veteran jockey Frank Alvarado enjoyed a streaky but successful weekend at Golden Gate Fields.

     Alvarado started off the weekend with a bang when he won with all five of his mounts Friday.  Alvarado fans went home with their pockets full as three of his winners returned double-digit payoffs.

     The momentum didn’t carry over to Saturday, however, as Alvarado went winless with six mounts.  A pair of third-place finishes was the best he could muster.
 

Hollendorfer Runner Pays $87.00 To Win

     Jerry Hollendorfer is a member of thoroughbred racing’s Hall of Fame and has won 39 training championships at Golden Gate Fields, so it’s only natural that his horses are always well-backed at the betting windows at the East Bay racetrack.  Well, almost always.

Jockey Alvarado Goes 5-For-5 At GGF, Teams With Trainer Specht For Three Wins

     Jockey Frank Alvarado rode a perfect game Friday at Golden Gate Fields, winning with all five of his mounts on the eight-race program.  Three of his victories came aboard horses trained by Steve Specht, who also won every race in which he participated.

Stormy Lucy Scores 32-To-1 Upset In Sprint Feature

     Stormy Lucy rocked the boat on Presidents’ Day at Golden Gate Fields when she won the featured eighth race at odds of 32-to-1.

     Ridden by Pedro Terrero, Stormy Lucy outran 4-to-5 favorite Curvy Cat down the stretch to win the 5 1/2-furlong dash for 3-year-old fillies by 1 3/4 lengths.  Royal Trick finished third.
