Lucky Culprit Favored In Gold Rush Stakes At GGF

     The impressive maiden winner Lucky Culprit has been made the 2-to-1 morning line favorite in the $75,000 Gold Rush Stakes at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.

     The Gold Rush, a one-mile contest for 2-year-olds, attracted a field of six.  Lucky Culprit will be ridden by Russell Baze and break from post position five.

Buck’s Bro Defeats Baton Roo By A Nose At Golden Gate Fields

     In what turned out to be a veritable match race, Buck’s Bro defeated Baton Roo by a nose in the $26,880 feature race at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.

     Buck’s Bro, ridden by Francisco Duran, and Baton Roo, with Aaron Gryder aboard, raced one-two throughout the one-mile contest for 3-year-olds and up.  The 4-year-old gelding Baton Roo drew alongside Buck’s Bro in midstretch but couldn’t go by the         6-year-old gelding.

Cast Of Six Set To Run In $75,000 Gold Rush Stakes

     The $75,000 Gold Rush Stakes, a steppingstone race to the 2012 California Derby, will be run Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.

     The Gold Rush is a one-mile test for 2-year-olds and entries for the race were taken Wednesday morning.  Six juveniles were signed up for the feature and the top performers in the race will likely be pointed for the $100,000 California Derby on Saturday, Jan. 14.

Jockey Cedillo Records Riding Hat Trick At GGF

     Jockey Abel Cedillo closed out the racing week at Golden Gate Fields by riding three winners Sunday.

     Cedillo won back-to-back races in the middle of the card, taking the fifth race with Looking Out ($5.20) and the sixth with Unveiled Heat ($3.80).  Cedillo completed his riding hat trick when he won the featured eighth race with Sweetly Peppered ($5.80).

Jockey Baze, Trainer Sherman Each Win Pair Of Races At GGF

     Jockey Russell Baze and trainer Steve Sherman each recorded a pair of victories Sunday at Golden Gate Fields.
