Great Claim Hudson Landing Wins $150,000 San Francisco Mile

     Hudson Landing, claimed for $50,000 two months ago by owner Jared Chappel, upset multiple graded stakes-winner Jeranimo in the Grade 3 $150,000 San Francisco Mile at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.

     Ridden by Juan Hernandez and trained by Blaine Wright, Hudson Landing won Northern California’s top turf race by a half-length over Jeranimo in 1:37.29.  Gallant Son, the runner-up in the 2011 SF Mile, finished third in the 2012 edition while making his first start in eight months.

Classy Jeranimo Is 8-To-5 Favorite In $150,000 San Francisco Mile

     The classy 6-year-old horse Jeranimo and Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith are the ones to beat in the $150,000 San Francisco Mile at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.

     Jeranimo is the 8-to-5 favorite on the morning line in the Grade 3 SF Mile, Northern California’s most important turf race.  Post time for the SF Mile, the seventh race on a nine-race program, is 4:25 p.m.   Gates open at 10 a.m. and first post is 1:15 p.m.

GOLDEN GATE FIELDS EARNS RE-ACCREDITATION FROM THE NTRA SAFETY AND INTEGRITY ALLIANCE

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced today that Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley, Calif., has earned re-accreditation from the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance. The re-accreditation followed a complete review of all racing operations at the facility. Golden Gate received its initial Alliance accreditation in February 2010. All accreditations and re-accreditations carry an effective period of two years.  
 

2011 Runner-up Gallant Son Will Try Again In San Francisco Mile

     Gallant Son, runner-up in the 2011 San Francisco Mile, will be back for the 2012 edition of the Grade 3 turf stakes at Golden Gate Fields.

     The $150,000 SF Mile will have its 62nd running Saturday and Gallant Son is among the horses confirmed to start in the race.  Entries for the feature will be taken Wednesday morning.

Hollendorfer Selects Lezcano For Rousing Sermon In Kentucky Derby

     Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer reported Saturday that he has selected East Coast-based jockey Jose Lezcano to ride Rousing Sermon in the Kentucky Derby on May 5 at Churchill Downs.

     Rousing Sermon will be the fourth Kentucky Derby mount for Lezcano, who finished second aboard Ice Box in the 2010 edition of the “Run For The Roses.”  Lezcano’s other Derby mounts were Deputy Glitters, who finished eighth in 2006, and Visionaire, who finished 12th in 2008.

Champion Older Male Of 2011 Acclamation Heads Roster Of Nominees To $150,000 San Francisco Mile

     Acclamation, the Eclipse Award winner as the best older horse of 2011, heads a roster of 21 nominees to the Grade 3 $150,000 San Francisco Mile, which will be run Saturday, April 28, at Golden Gate Fields.

     Acclamation won five consecutive graded stakes in 2011, including the Grade 1 Charlie Whittingham Handicap on the turf at Hollywood Park, the Grade 1 Eddie Read on the grass at Del Mar, and the Grade 1 Pacific Classic on Del Mar’s synthetic Polytrack surface.

$29,875 Carryover In Pick Six At Golden Gate Fields Friday

     Golden Gate Fields will present a seven-race card Friday and the program features four turf events and a Pick Six carryover of $29,875.

     Post time is 12:45 p.m. and races one, three, five, and seven will all be contested on the Lakeside Turf Course.  The first race is a 1 1/16-mile event for fillies and mares, the third is a one-mile test for 3-year-olds, the fifth is one-mile race for fillies and mares, and the seventh is a one-mile contest for 3-year-old fillies.
