9-Year-Old Multi-Millionaire Awesome Gem Wins Prep For SF Mile

     The classy 9-year-old gelding Awesome Gem, a multi-millionaire, made a winning 2012 debut Thursday at Golden Gate Fields when he captured the $38,500 feature race.

    Awesome Gem won the one-mile allowance contest by a half-length over 2011 California Derby champ Positive Response.  The race, a prep for the $150,000 San Francisco Mile on April 28, was originally scheduled to be run on the turf but was moved to Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic Tapeta racing surface due to the recent rains.

9-Year-Old Awesome Gem Makes 2012 Debut Thursday

     The 9-year-old gelding Awesome Gem, a multiple graded stakes-winner of $2,738,270, will make his 2012 debut Thursday at Golden Gate Fields in a one-mile turf race.

     The $38,500 allowance event for 3-year-olds and up is a prep for the $150,000 San Francisco Mile, which will be run Saturday, April 28.  The Grade 3 SF Mile is Northern California’s top grass race.  
     

Sister Kate Scores Again; Alvarado Has Easter Sunday Triple

     Sister Kate improved her record to 3-for-5 with a front-running victory in the $36,920 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.

     Sister Kate, a 4-year-old filly by Benchmark, won her debut by seven lengths on    Jan. 12 and also posted a seven-length score on March 18.  Sandwiched between the two blow-out victories were fourth- and third-place finishes.

Hudson Landing Wins Second Straight For Trainer Wright

     Hudson Landing, recording his second consecutive victory since being claimed by trainer Blaine Wright, took the $33,280 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Saturday by 1 1/4 lengths over Photo Shopped.

Antares World, Halo Dolly In Action Friday

     Antares World and Halo Dolly, who ran one-two in the Pacific Heights Stakes in December, meet again Friday at Golden Gate Fields in a $38,500 allowance contest on the Lakeside Turf Course.

     The stakes-caliber race is the first contest on an eight-race program that begins at 12:45 p.m.  Joining Antares World and Halo Dolly in the one-mile test for fillies and mares are Bleach Blonde, Two Thirds Victory and Rico’s Posse.

Baze Caps Big Week With Five-Win Sunday

     Jockey Russell Baze capped a very successful week of riding at Golden Gate Fields by booting home five winners Sunday.

     Baze had multiple-win afternoons throughout the four-day racing week as he rode two winners Thursday, four winners Friday, and three winners Saturday.

Sanger Silver Makes Victorious Return To The Races

     Sanger Silver made a victorious return to the races Saturday at Golden Gate Fields when he defeated six rivals in the $40,820 sprint feature.

     Making his first start in 10 months, Sanger Silver won the six-furlong allowance contest for older horses by three-quarters of a length over 2-to-1 favorite Gutshot Straight.  Quick Enough finished third.  

Florida Derby, Dubai World Cup Simulcasts Plus Nine Local Races Saturday

     Golden Gate Fields will present a nine-race card Saturday and also offer fans two major races via simulcast – the $10 million Dubai World Cup and the $1 million Florida Derby.

     Gates open at 10 a.m., 40 minutes prior to the scheduled post time for the Dubai World Cup, a 1 1/4-mile event at Meydan Race Course in the United Arab Emirates.  The star-studded international field includes the American runners Game On Dude (3-to-1 on the morning line) and Royal Delta (8-to-1).

Catch Lorraine Upsets Top Debutante

     Catch Lorraine outran 7-to-5 favorite Top Debutante down the stretch to score a one-length victory in the $38,610 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.

    Catch Lorraine, ridden by David Lopez, won the one-mile test for fillies and mares in 1:39.82 and paid $12.00 after being dismissed at 5-to-1 in the betting.  Top Debutante took second by 2 1/2 lengths over Hoosier Honey.
