East Coast Jockeys Leparoux, Garcia Headed To GGF For El Camino Real Derby

     French rider Julien Leparoux, a two-time champion jockey in the U.S., and Peruvian rider Alan Garcia, who won the 2008 Belmont Stakes aboard longshot Da’ Tara, will both be at Golden Gate Fields Saturday to compete in the Grade 3 $200,000 El Camino Real Derby.

Large Field Shaping Up For $200,000 El Camino Real Derby

     A large and competitive field is shaping up for the 31st running of the Grade 3 $200,000 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields.

     Northern California’s top prep race for the Kentucky Derby, the El Camino Real Derby will be run Saturday.  The race will be carried live on Comcast SportsNet California during its one-hour telecast (4 p.m. to 5 p.m.) from Golden Gate Fields.

23 Runners Nominated To Grade 3 $200,000 El Camino Real Derby

     Twenty-three runners have been nominated to the Grade 3 $200,000 El Camino Real Derby, a 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-olds that will be run Saturday, Feb. 18, at Golden Gate Fields.

     The El Camino Real Derby is Northern California’s most important race for horses with aspirations of reaching the Triple Crown events.  The race will be carried live on Comcast SportsNet California during its one-hour telecast (4 p.m. to 5 p.m.) from Golden Gate Fields.

Baze, Gryder Win Half The Races On Super Bowl Sunday Card

     Russell Baze and Aaron Gryder, the two leading jockeys at Golden Gate Fields, combined to win half the races on the track’s Super Bowl Sunday racing program.

     Due to the Super Bowl, Golden Gate Fields started its eight-race card at 11:15 a.m. and Gryder tallied in the early opener with Lady Hokulea ($4.80).  The 7-to-5 favorite, Lady Hokulea held off 12-to-1 outsider Roll Your Eyes to win by a neck.

GGF Schedules Early Post Time Sunday So Fans Can Get Home For Super Bowl

     Golden Gate Fields has scheduled a special post time of 11:15 a.m. for Sunday’s racing program.  The early start will enable the eight-race card to be completed by approximately 2:45 p.m., well before kickoff of the Super Bowl (3:30 p.m.).

Morey Family Enjoys Winning Day

     The Morey family enjoyed a big Friday afternoon at Golden Gate Fields as veteran trainer William J. Morey, Jr. saddled one winner and his son, trainer William E. Morey, sent out a pair of winners.

     William J. Morey took the first race on the eight-race card with Grantmartyamiracle ($5.20).  The 8-to-5 second choice in the betting, Grantmartyamiracle captured the
5 1/2-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies by 1 1/4 lengths under jockey Russell Baze.

Cal Derby Champ Russian Greek Continues Preparations For El Camino Real Derby

     California Derby winner Russian Greek worked an easy six furlongs in 1:16 2/5 handily Thursday morning at Golden Gate Fields as he continues to prepare for his next assignment – the Grade 3 $200,000 El Camino Real Derby.

     The El Camino Real Derby, Northern California’s key race for Kentucky Derby hopefuls, will be run Saturday, Feb. 18, at Golden Gate Fields.  The El Camino Real Derby is a 1 1/8-mile contest for 3-year-olds.

Golden Gate Fields Schedules Special Early Post Time For Super Bowl Sunday

     Golden Gate Fields has scheduled a special post time of 11:15 a.m. for Sunday’s racing program.  The early start will enable the eight-race card to be completed by approximately 2:45 p.m., well before kickoff of the Super Bowl (3:30 p.m.).

     All gates will open at 9:30 a.m. and Golden Gate Fields will give away eight 42-inch high definition televisions and also offer fans the usual Dollar Day Sunday specials – $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 hot dogs, $1 beers, and $1 sodas.
