Marks Mine, defeated by Ciao Bella Luna in an allowance race on Oct. 25, turned the tables on the heavily-favored filly in the $60,550 Golden Gate Debutante Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.
Marks Mine led from start to finish in the six-furlong feature for 2-year-old fillies and held off Ciao Bella Luna down the stretch to score by 1 1/4 lengths in a quick 1:09.78. Ciao Bella, the 2-5 favorite, took second by 3 1/4 lengths over My Lil Shamrock.
Jockey Abel Cedillo rode the winners of the late Daily Double Thursday at Golden Gate Fields.
Cedillo won the 5 1/2-furlong sixth race with heavy 1-2 favorite Easy Going Boykie, who rallied from fifth in a field of eight to score by one length over Draw Two Buck. Trained by Steve Miyadi, Easy Going Boykie paid $3.00 after recording his second straight victory and his third win in seven career starts.
Ciao Bella Luna will seek her third win in as many starts when she faces five rivals Saturday in the $50,000 Golden Gate Debutante at Golden Gate Fields.
The Golden Gate Debutante is a six-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies and Ciao Bella Luna will break from post position one. Ridden to victory by Eric Camacho in her first two six-furlong races, Ciao Bella Luna will be piloted by jockey Russell Baze when she makes her stakes debut in the Debutante.
The promising 3-year-old filly Koby Jo improved her career batting average to .500 Sunday when she posted an impressive 1 1/4-length victory in the $36,100 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields.
Koby Jo, ridden by Inoel Beato, ran down English Royal in deep stretch to earn her fourth win in eight starts. Cathy’s Crunches, the 3-2 favorite, finished third, a half-length behind English Royal and a head in front of Advance Ticket.
Slim Pickins, scratched from Friday’s $100,000 All American Stakes by trainer Keith Nations, charged down the middle of the Golden Gate Fields turf course to win Saturday’s $33,540 allowance feature by a head.
Nations felt Slim Pickins fit better in Saturday’s main event than the All American and his decision to skip the Grade 3 stakes paid off when Slim Pickins prevailed in a photo finish over Siberian Laughter. Native Thunder finished third.
The sharp 6-year-old gelding Control Seeker will seek his fourth straight victory Friday when he competes in the $100,000 All American Stakes at Golden Gate Fields.
The All American, a Grade 3 race for 3-year-olds and up, will be run at 1 1/16-miles on Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic Tapeta racing surface. Control Seeker is 6-1 on the morning line and will be ridden by Francisco Duran.
Gladding, a Grade 2 stakes-winner from the powerful John Sadler barn, has been made the morning-line favorite in the $100,000 All American Stakes at Golden Gate Fields.
A Grade 3 race for 3-year-olds and up and the premier event of the fall meeting, the All American will be run Friday. Golden Gate Fields price maker Steve Martinelli made Gladding the 7-5 favorite in a field of seven.
