Happybirthdaybaby Celebrates Another Win On Tapeta

     Happybirthdaybaby celebrated another victory on Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic Tapeta racing surface Sunday after besting six rivals in the $34,744 sprint feature.
     Getting a perfect trip under jockey Russell Baze, Happybirthdaybaby sat behind dueling leaders Fast and Foxy and English Royal through an opening half-mile run in a quick :44.25.

Luscious Lonna Wires Rivals In Miss America

     Luscious Lonna, just as she did in winning back-to-back editions of the Golden Poppy Stakes in 2013-2014, led from start to finish in the $65,480 Miss America Stakes at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.

Need You Now Heads Full Field Of 12 In Miss America Stakes

     The Irish-bred filly Need You Now heads a full field of 12 well-matched fillies and mares set to start in the $50,000-added Miss America Stakes at Golden Gate Fields Saturday. 
     Fourteen distaffers were entered in the 1/1/16-mile turf race, however, Kitten’s Queen and Magnificent Shirl were scratched Friday morning.  The defections allowed Amnesia and Time and Tides to draw into the field from the also eligible list.

Baze Rides Four Winners On Opening Day; San Francisco Giants Hunch Plays For Friday

Jockey Russell Baze, fresh off a riding title at the summer meeting, kicked off Golden Gate Fields’ fall season by riding four winners Thursday.
     Baze won the first race of the meeting aboard 3-5 favorite Big Swig ($3.20), who scored by a nostril over Moogie Woogie in a head-bobbing finish.  Baze completed the early Daily Double with an easy victory aboard Ranger Marini ($6.20) in the second race.  The Daily Double paid $13.80.

Golden Gate Fields Launches Fall Meeting Thursday

Golden Gate Fields opens its 2014 fall meeting Thursday and the 36-day season will feature the simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships as well as the 63rd running of the Grade 3 $100,000 Berkeley Handicap. 
     The fall session runs through Dec. 14 and racing will be presented Thursday through Sunday each week.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. 

Shared Belief Continues Preparation For $5 Million Breeders’ Cup Classic With Sharp Five-Furlong Drill At Golden Gate Fields

Shared Belief, who is expected to be favored in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 1, continued his preparation for the 1 1/4-mile race by working five furlongs in 1:00 3/5 handily on Golden Gate Fields’ Tapeta racing surface Tuesday.
“It was a very good work,” said Sherrie Wolfe, head clocker at Golden Gate Fields.  “He broke about six lengths behind two work mates (Mickey Ball and Hermosa Vaquera), collared them in the stretch and was pulling away at the end.”

Breeders’ Cup Simulcasts, Berkeley Handicap Featured At Fall Meeting

The simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, an event in which Golden Gate Fields-based Shared Belief will put his perfect record on the line in the $5 million Classic, and the 63rd running of the Grade 3 $100,000 Berkeley Handicap will highlight the 36-day fall meeting that begins Thursday, Oct. 16, at the East Bay racetrack. 
     The fall session runs through Dec. 14 and racing will be presented Thursday through Sunday each week.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. 

Golden Gate Fields Earns Re-Accreditation From Safety And Integrity Alliance

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced Thursday that Golden Gate Fields has earned re-accreditation from the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance. 
     Golden Gate Fields, which will open its 36-day fall meeting on Thursday, Oct. 16, received its initial Alliance accreditation in 2010. All accreditations and re-accreditations carry an effective period of two years. 

Champ Shared Belief Works Impressively For Awesome Again Stakes

     Shared Belief, the undefeated Eclipse Award champion, completed his serious preparation for Saturday’s Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita by working four furlongs in :47 3/5 handily at Golden Gate Fields Tuesday.  
     Jockey Ricardo Gonzalez worked Shared Belief for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who saw his charge gallop out five furlongs in 1:01.
