Diamond Stilettos Upsets 1-5 Favorite Cast In Silver

     Irish-bred Diamond Stilettos, making her second U.S. start, upset 1-5 favorite Cast in Silver in a one-mile allowance race for 3-year-old fillies Thursday at Golden Gate Fields.
 
     Cast in Silver, who last weekend was one of the 23 individual betting interests in the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, had won her debut in very impressive fashion on Feb. 16 and was hammered down to 1-9 on the tote board during most of the betting Thursday.
 

Promising 3-Year-Olds In Action Thursday At Golden Gate Fields

     A pair of promising 3-year-olds, the filly Cast in Silver and the colt Grazen’s Hope, will be in action Thursday at Golden Gate Fields.
 
     Cast in Silver, a Kentucky-bred daughter of City Zip, ran away to a 5 1/2-length victory when she made her career debut in a six-furlong maiden allowance race on     Feb. 16 at Golden Gate Fields.  The bay filly will try two turns Thursday when she faces five rivals in the fourth race, a one-mile allowance test.
 

Welcome Home Ryan Wins Match Race With Sandor

     Sandor and Welcome Home Ryan staged their own match race in the $24,000 feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday and it was a thriller.
 
    Welcome Home Ryan, ridden by Catalino Martinez, surged powerfully in the final strides to win the one-mile race for older horses by a neck over Sandor and jockey Russell Baze.  
 

Alvarado And Specht Click Twice At Golden Gate Fields

     Jockey Frank Alvarado and trainer Steve Specht, a potent jockey-trainer combo in Northern California for many years, clicked twice at Golden Gate Fields Saturday. 
 
     Alvarado and Specht scored with a pair of heavy favorites, taking the third race with 6-5 choice Alpine Gathering and the sixth with 1-2 choice Adriatic Son ($3.00).
 

Jockey Hernandez Records Riding Hat Trick

     Jockey Juan Hernandez, capitalizing on some live mounts, recorded a riding hat trick Friday at Golden Gate Fields.
 
     Hernandez won the second race with even-money favorite Pairodice Ridge ($4.00), the fourth race with 9-5 second choice Perfect Set ($5.60), and the eighth race with 3-2 favorite Mia Isabel ($5.00).
 

Pepper Crown Scores Front-Running Victory

     Pepper Crown, rating nicely under jockey Juan Hernandez, posted a front-running victory in the $43,400 McCann’s Mojave allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.
 
     Despite being hounded on the backstretch by 11-1 long shot Irish Art, Pepper Crown relaxed on the lead and cruised through fractions of :51.50 (half-mile) and 1:16.89 (six furlongs).

Stakes Victors Meet Thursday At Golden Gate Fields

     Four stakes-winners are among the six horses set to compete Thursday at Golden Gate Fields in the $35,000 McCann’s Mojave, a 1 1/16-mile allowance race for 4-year-olds and up. 
 

Happybirthdaybaby Completes Hat Trick For Hollendorfer

     Happybirthdaybaby, improving to 3-for-3 for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, scored a front-running victory in the $33,418 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.
 
     Hollendorfer claimed Happybirthdaybaby for $32,000 on Nov. 11 at Golden Gate Fields and had her make her first start for his stable at Santa Anita, where she won a $40,000 claiming event down the track’s famed hillside turf course.
 

Favored Brilliant Melody Prevails In Blanket Finish

Brilliant Melody, the 9-5 favorite ridden by Russell Baze, fought off a host of challengers through the final furlong to win the $40,405 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Saturday. 
 
     In a blanket finish, Brilliant Melody prevailed by a neck over Koby Jo and English Royal.  Koby Jo took second by a nostril over English Royal, who finished a head in front of Esperanza Latina.  My Gal Candy finished fifth, a half-length behind Esperanza Latina and a head in front of last-place finisher Kitty Marie.

Simulcast Of Major Kentucky Derby Preps Featured Saturday

Golden Gate Fields will present a nine-race card Saturday and the program will be enhanced by the simulcast of two major Kentucky Derby preps – the Grade 2 $400,000 Fountain of Youth and the Grade 2 $400,000 Risen Star Stakes.
