Weekend Party Rambles To 6-To-1 Upset In Turf Feature

Weekend Party, responding to an aggressive ride by jockey Francisco Duran, scored a front-running upset at Golden Gate Fields Saturday in the $27,560 turf feature.

Weekend Party immediately seized the lead, settled into a nice stride on the backstretch and then spurted away from her rivals on the far turn to open up an insurmountable advantage entering the stretch.

Weekend Party, trained by Jedd Josephson, won the 1 1/16-mile allowance event by
3 1/2 lengths over Imperialistic Diva in 1:44.09.  Final Stand took third by a head over Elegant, who finished a neck in front of Fight of a Dream.

Izshelegal, the 2-to-1 favorite who had the services of Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, never threatened while finishing a disappointing sixth in the field of 11 fillies and mares.

Weekend Party was dismissed at 6-to-1 in the wagering and paid $15.00.  A
3-year-old filly by A.P. Indy, Weekend Party earned $15,600 for her second victory in eight career starts.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. and the track is offering $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 programs, $1 beers, $1 hot dogs, $1 sodas, the opportunity to watch all the football games via the NFL Sunday Ticket, and a free concert by Mustache Harbor.  Gates open at 10 a.m.
