Valiant Flame Rallies To Win Tribesman Feature

Valiant Flame, ridden by Pedro Terrero, scored a last-to-first upset in the $39,095 Tribesman sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.

The fourth betting choice in a field of six, Valiant Flame accelerated powerfully down the middle of the racetrack to get up and win the six-furlong allowance race by a half-length over 7-5 favorite Tribal Jewel.  Ourwestcoastghost, the 5-2 second choice, finished third.

Valiant Flame, trained by Frank Lucarelli, was coming off a fifth-place finish in a mile allowance race on March 15.  Shortened back to six furlongs Sunday, Valiant Flame responded with a big effort that resulted in an impressive victory in 1:09.70.

Valiant Flame paid $15.00 after improving his record at six furlongs to 3-for-7 with two seconds and a third.  A 4-year-old gelding by Eddington, Valiant Flame earned $21,000 for his owner, REV Racing.

The 6-year-old gelding Positive Response, a multiple stakes-winner making his first start since Oct. 13, never got involved and checked in fifth.

Terrero had a riding triple.  In addition to winning the featured fifth race with Valiant Flame, he took the third race with Golden Mexico ($3.40) and the seventh with Rathmoon ($16.80).

Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
