Upsets In Pick 5 Races Set Up New Year’s Day Carryover

No favorites came through in the first five races at Golden Gate Fields Sunday and the result is a nice Pick 5 carryover of $44,626 for Wednesday’s special New Year’s Day racing program.

Post time for the nine-race holiday program, which will kick off a five-day racing week at Golden Gate Fields, is 12:45 p.m.

The Pick 5 is a 50-cent wager that requires handicappers to pick the winners of five consecutive races.  Golden Gate Fields is conducting the wager on the first five races each day during the winter/spring meeting.

Sunday’s card began with a major upset as Mystorybnstikntoit ($52.20) won the first race at odds of 25-1.  Brock Says ($7.80) took the second race as the 5-2 second choice in the betting and Tahoe Yodeler ($14.20) captured the third race as the 6-1 third choice.

Zehner’s Zenna ($17.40) won the fourth race after being dismissed at 7-1, the fifth choice in a field of seven.  Charlie Thomas ($13.40) took the fifth race as the 5-1 third choice.

The New Year’s Day card will also feature a Pick 6 carryover of $19,841 and a Super High Five carryover of $10,038.  The $2 Pick 6 (pick the winner of six consecutive races) will be held on races four through nine.  The $1 Super High Five (pick the first five finishers in exact order) will be held on the ninth race.

Gates open at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
