Ultimate Eagle Among 20 Nominees To $100,000 All American
Ultimate Eagle, who opened the year with a 7 1/4-lenth victory in the Grade 2 Strub Stakes at Santa Anita, is one of the 20 horses nominated to the Grade 3 All American Stakes at Golden Gate Fields.
The $100,000 All American will be run Friday and headline a special day-after-Thanksgiving card at Golden Gate Fields. Entries for the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and up will be taken Saturday morning.
Ultimate Eagle, winner of the Grade 2 Oak Tree Derby and Grade 1 Hollywood Derby in 2011, is a 4-year-old colt who has five victories in 10 career starts and $467,800 in earnings. After crushing his rivals in the Strub Stakes on Feb. 4, Ultimate Eagle was made the 2-1 favorite in the Grade 1 $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap on March 3. Ultimate Eagle dueled for the lead in the 1 1/4-mile Big ’Cap before tiring to finish 10th in a field of 13.
Trained by Michael Pender, Ultimate Eagle hasn’t started since his disappointing performance in the Big ’Cap but has recently recorded a series of solid workouts for his return to the races. Ultimate Eagle is owned by B. J. Wright.
The nominees to the All American Stakes are: Akkadian, Comma to the Top, Control Seeker, Duke of Doom, Fast Track, Gladding, Guidopanzini, Hudson Landing, Jebrica, Kettle Corn, Open Water, Polytechnicien, Positive Response, Regulus, Siberian Laughter, Silentio, Skattle Seattle, Slim Pickins, Tribal Jewel, and Ultimate Eagle.
