Two Biggest Stakes Of Summer To Be Simulcast To Golden Gate Fields

The second weekend of racing at Golden Gate Fields’ summer meeting will be highlighted by the simulcast of the two most important stakes of the summer – the Grade 1 $1.25 million Travers Stakes and the Grade 1 $1 million Pacific Classic.

The Travers, a 1 1/4-mile race for 3-year-olds known as the Mid-Summer Derby, will be run Saturday at Saratoga in Saratoga Springs, New York.  Haskell Invitational winner Bayern heads a field of 10 in the Travers, which will be televised live on NBC Sports Network at 2:45 p.m.

The Pacific Classic, a 1 1/4-mile race for 3-year-olds and up, will be run Sunday at Del Mar in Southern California.  Golden Gate Fields-based Shared Belief, an undefeated 3-year-old gelding trained by Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer, headlines a cast of 11 in the Pacific Classic, which will be televised live on NBC Sports Network at 5:46 p.m.

The Grade 3 $200,000 Longacres Mile, the biggest race in the state of Washington, will also be simulcast to Golden Gate Fields Sunday.   Run at Emerald Downs in Auburn, the Longacres Mile attracted a full field of 12 older runners, including Stryker Road, who finished second in the feature last year.  The Longacres Mile will be run at 5 p.m.

Golden Gate Fields will present a seven-race card Friday, an eight-race program Saturday, and a nine-race card Sunday.  Friday’s card has a mid-afternoon post time of 3:45 p.m.  First post Saturday and Sunday is 1:45 p.m.
