Trio Have Triples At Golden Gate Fields
Jockey Juan Hernandez and trainers Steve Miyadi and Jerry Hollendorfer won three races apiece Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.
Hernandez and Miyadi teamed up for two of their victories. The duo won the fourth race with Melissa Rose ($16.80) and the sixth with Red River King ($22.20).
Hernandez completed his riding hat trick when he won the ninth race aboard Triple Action ($10.20). Miyadi secured his training triple when he captured the seventh race with Talkin McCarty ($12.40).
Hollendorfer swept the first two races on the card My Gal Candy ($6.20) and Ballestero ($7.20) and then capped off the day by winning the 10th and final race with Hot Engagement ($10.20).
Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Sunday. Post time is 12:45 p.m. and the track is offering $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 programs, $1 hot dogs,
$1 beers, and $1 sodas. The track’s spring concert series continues with The Cheeseballs performing between races on the Trackside Stage.
Sway Away Twelfth In Preakness Stakes -- Sway Away, trained by Jeff Bonde of Pleasanton, finished 12th in the 136th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course Saturday. “We enjoyed the festivities, we enjoyed the fanfare, and I liked everyone writing about us, but we failed the test,” said Bonde.
The Preakness was won by Shackleford, who defeated Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom by a half-length. Astrology finished third.
