Trainer Monroe Wins Back-To-Back Races

Trainer Monroe Wins Back-To-Back Races

Trainer Sherrie Monroe, winless with her first 11 starters at the 2011 fall meeting, won back-to-back races Sunday at Golden Gate Fields.

Monroe and jockey Chris Russell teamed up to win the fifth race with 34-to-1 shot Sarah’s Melody, who rallied from eighth in a field of nine to score by a half-length over Flying Home.   Owned in part by Monroe, Sarah’s Melody was the longest shot on the tote board and paid $71.60 to win

Monroe hooked up with jockey Leslie Mawing to capture the sixth race with Ambedeux, who charged from sixth in a field of seven to win by a half-length over Global Love.  The second choice in the wagering at just under 4-to-1, Ambedeux paid $9.80.

Trainer William E. Morey also won a pair of races Sunday.  Morey, third in the trainer standings with 11 victories, scored with 4-to-5 favorite Red Hot Charlotte ($3.80) in the second race and 8-to-5 favorite Lucky Culprit ($5.20) in the seventh.

Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.  The track has scheduled a special early post time of 11:15 a.m. for the holiday card, a starting time that will allow fans to enjoy a day of racing and still get home in time to carve the turkey.
