Trainer Martin Just Keeps On Winning
John F. Martin, who leads the nation’s trainers with an amazing 46.7 win percentage, saddled his third straight winner at Golden Gate Fields Thursday when Kern River took the first race.
Kern River was the only starter on Thursday’s program for Martin, who has reached the winner’s circle with six of his last nine entrants. On the year, Martin has amassed 29 victories from 62 starters.
Martin runners are usually well backed at the betting windows and Kern River was no exception. Made the 3-2 favorite in the 1 1/16-mile race for $4,000 claimers, Kern River rallied to win by a three-quarters of a length under jockey Juan Hernandez and paid $5.00.
Martin is scheduled to start three horses on Friday’s eight-race program. He’ll send out T. D.’s Gold (2-1 second choice on the morning line) in the second race, Tusher Mtn Man (9-5 favorite) in the third, and Last Sting (4-1 fourth choice) in eighth.
Post time Friday is 12:45 p.m. and there is a carryover of $49,138 in the Pick Six.
