Tizaplayer Sets Track Record In Romping Win

Tizaplayer lowered the Golden Gate Fields track record for 5 1/2-furlongs on Tapeta Sunday when he covered the distance in 1:02.56 while blitzing eight opponents in the seventh race.

Tizaplayer, trained by Blaine Wright and ridden by Juan Hernandez, won the starter allowance race for older horses by 4 1/2 lengths and easily bested the previous track mark of 1:02.81, set by Urban Hunter on March 17, 2013.

Tizaplayer was making his first start since Wright claimed him for $32,000 on July 28, 2013, at Del Mar.  A gelded son of Tiz Wonderful, Tizaplayer had trained smartly for his 4-year-old debut and was made a heavy 4-5 favorite.

The fans that hammered Tizaplayer down to his low odds never had to sweat as he took command at the start and never looked back.  Owned by Peter Redekop B C Ltd., Tizaplayer paid $3.80.

Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
