Streaky Weekend For Alvarado Ends With Riding Hat Trick
Veteran jockey Frank Alvarado enjoyed a streaky but successful weekend at Golden Gate Fields.
Alvarado started off the weekend with a bang when he won with all five of his mounts Friday. Alvarado fans went home with their pockets full as three of his winners returned double-digit payoffs.
The momentum didn’t carry over to Saturday, however, as Alvarado went winless with six mounts. A pair of third-place finishes was the best he could muster.
Alvarado bounced back Sunday when he posted a riding hat trick in front of an on-track crowd of 6,752. Alvarado scored with his first three mounts on the card, taking the third race with Global Debutante ($13.60), the fifth with Mavicsa ($3.80), and the sixth with Royal Alexander ($3.40).
Alvarado is scheduled to ride five horses when racing resumes Thursday at Golden Gate Fields. Post time is 12:45 p.m. and Alvarado is assigned to the following horses: Bits And Bobs (3-to-1 on the morning line) in the second race, Baton Roo (3-to-1) in the third, Ol’ Steely Blue (5-to-2) in the sixth, Skipshot (5-to-1) in the seventh, and Excessive Fashion (9-to-2) in the eighth.
