Simulcast Of Major Kentucky Derby Preps Featured Saturday
Golden Gate Fields will present a nine-race card Saturday and the program will be enhanced by the simulcast of two major Kentucky Derby preps – the Grade 2 $400,000 Fountain of Youth and the Grade 2 $400,000 Risen Star Stakes.
The Fountain of Youth and Risen Star are both 1 1/16-mile races for 3-year-olds and will be run at Gulfstream Park (Hallandale Beach, Fla.) and Fair Grounds (New Orleans), respectively. They are the first of eight races to offer 85 qualifying points (50-20-10-5) toward the Kentucky Derby.
Commissioner, a son of A.P. Indy who has two wins and a second in three starts for top trainer Todd Pletcher, is the 3-1 morning line favorite in the Fountain of Youth. Commissioner will be ridden by John Velazquez and break from post position one in the field of 13.
Vicar’s in Trouble, a romping winner in two starts at Fair Grounds, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in the Risen Star, which has a field of 14. Trained by Michael J. Maker, Vicar’s in Trouble is coming off a 6 3/4-length triumph in the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes.
Vicar’s in Trouble will be ridden by his regular pilot, Rosie Napravnik, three-time defending jockey champion at Fair Grounds.

Post time for the first race at Golden Gate Fields is 12:45 p.m.
Winning Streak Ends – The 5-year-old mare Play Misty for Us had her five-race winning streak snapped Friday at Golden Gate Fields when she checked in fourth in the seventh race, a one-mile event for fillies and mares entered for a claiming tag of $6,250.
