Shudacudawudya 7-to-5 Choice In Oakland Stakes

Shudacudawudya 7-to-5 Choice In Oakland Stakes

Shudacudawudya is a solid 7-to-5 favorite on the morning line in Saturday’s $50,000 Oakland Stakes at Golden Gate Fields.

The Oakland, a six-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up, attracted a field of eight.  Shudacudawudya soundly defeated three of the Oakland entrants – Tribesman, Our Minesweeper and Skipshot – in his most recent outing.

Shudacudawudya returned from a seven-month layoff to score a four-length victory over Tribesman in a six-furlong allowance race on Sept. 25 at Golden Gate Fields.  Tribesman took second by three lengths over Our Minesweeper, who edged Skipshot for third.

Shudacudawudya clocked a fine time of 1:09.01 and earned a career high Beyer speed figure of 100.  The victory was Shudacudawudya’s fifth in nine starts on Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic Tapeta racing surface.

Shudacudawudya will break from post position four in the Oakland and be ridden by Francisco Duran.  Shudacudawudya is trained by Lloyd Mason and owned by Mason’s son, Brett.

The morning line for the Oakland Stakes is as follows: Sourdough Sam 15-to-1, Our Minesweeper 12-to-1, Quick Enough 20-to-1, Shudacudawudya 7-to-5, Starboardlights 6-to-1, Tribesman 4-to-1, Skipshot 10-to-1, and Hexbreaker 3-to-1.

Baze Has Back Spasms --  Jockey Russell Baze, who won the first race with Magic Spirit ($4.40) and finished fifth in the fourth race aboard Dashing, took off his final four mounts Friday due to back spasms.  Baze is expected to resume riding Saturday.
