Sherman Winners Return Nice Dividends At Golden Gate Fields

Trainer Steve Sherman sent out a pair of winners at Golden Gate Fields Sunday and both rewarded their backers with nice payoffs.

Sherman saddled the exacta in the sixth race when his 7-year-old gelding Wild Cycle defeated his 5-year-old gelding Dave’s Pacemaker by 1 1/4 lengths in a six-furlong sprint for $4,000 claimers.  Wild Cycle paid $8.60 as the 3-to-1 second choice in the wagering after upsetting stablemate Dave’s Pacemaker, the even-money favorite.  The $1 Sherman exacta paid $12.50.

Sherman came right back to win the seventh race with 17-to-1 outsider Victoriously Jewel, who paid $37.20 after romping home by three lengths in a six-furlong contest for $8,000 maiden-claimers.  Sherman’s other entrant in the race, Putah Creek, finished seventh as the 2-to-1 favorite.

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and jockey Cristobal Herrera also won two races Sunday.

Hollendorfer scored his victories with favorites, taking the second race with Successful Bluff ($4.60) and the fourth with Zefina ($5.20).  Herrera won the fifth race with 9-to-1 shot Speed Rouser ($21.40) and the ninth with Moonlit Magic ($7.20).

Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. and there is a carryover of $25,486 in the Pick Six.
