Sherman Saddles Four Winners At GGF
There were eight races run at Golden Gate Fields Friday and trainer Steve Sherman won half of them.
Sherman, the second-leading conditioner at the meeting with 30 victories, teamed up with four different jockeys while recording his four-bagger.
Sherman won the first race with Diablo Run ($9.40), who rallied from last to score by 1 1/4 lengths under jockey Julien Couton. Sherman came right back to take second race with heavy favorite Knockout Artist ($2.80), who romped home by 3 1/4 lengths with Russell Baze in the saddle. The Sherman Daily Double paid $18.00.
Sherman sat out the third and fourth races and then sent out Excessive Wager ($5.60), ridden by Aaron Gryder, to an easy 3 1/2-length victory in the fifth race. Sherman’s big day was completed when his 5-year-old gelding Street Car ($7.20) won the seventh race under jockey Hector Romero.
Baze and Gryder also had very productive afternoons as the two veterans each had riding triples.
Golden Gate Fields will present a nine-race program Saturday and the local card will be supplemented by the simulcast of the Timely Writer Stakes (featuring early Kentucky Derby favorite Uncle Mo) from Gulfstream Park, the Tampa Bay Derby (featuring Brethren) from Tampa Bay Downs, and the San Felipe Stakes (featuring Jaycito) from Santa Anita.
Post time at Golden Gate Fields is 12:45 p.m.
