Rowdy Gal Enjoys Road Trip To Golden Gate Fields
Rowdy Gal’s road trip to Golden Gate Fields turned out to be a successful one by the slimmest of noses.
Rowdy Gal, sent north by Southern California-based trainer John Sadler, won the $38,500 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields when she got the head bob over I’m Tops in a very tight photo finish. The official winning margin was a nose but in fact was more like a nostril.
Ridden by veteran jockey Antonio Castanon, Rowdy Gal came from just off the pace to take the six-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies in 1:10.53. The 6-to-5 favorite, Rowdy Gal paid $4.40.
Rowdy Gal had made her previous two starts in stakes at Santa Anita, finishing fourth in the Grade 2 Santa Ynez and fifth in the Sweet Life. The shipper beat a tough opponent Thursday as I’m Tops had won her previous three races.
Rowdy Gal, owned by Marsha Naify, was purchased as a 2-year-old for $130,000. A Kentucky-bred daughter of Pure Prize, Rowdy Gal has three wins in five starts and $89,379 in earnings.
Jockey Juan Hernandez had a riding hat trick Thursday. Hernandez won the second race with Jule’s Gold ($6.60), the fourth with Tizannette ($5.00) and the fifth with Easy Going Boykie ($14.40).
Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Friday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
