Rated Fiesty, Gadget Queen Dead-Heat For Win at GGF
Rated Fiesty and Gadget Queen shared a victory Sunday at Golden Gate Fields when they dead-heated for the win in the featured eighth race, a $40,580 allowance sprint.
Rated Fiesty, ridden by Juan Hernandez, and Gadget Queen, with Leslie Mawing aboard, both closed from off the pace and hooked up in midstretch for a titanic battle.
Rated Fiesty and Gadget Queen raced side-by-side to the wire and the photo finish camera couldn’t separate the top two choices in the wagering. Rated Fiesty paid $2.60 to win while Gadget Queen returned $3.20. Seeking the Queen finished third.
Rated Fiesty, a 5-year-old mare trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, notched her fifth victory in 15 career starts. Gadget Queen, a 6-year-old mare conditioned by Blaine Wright, earned her 10th win in 34 lifetime outings. Both mares earned $15,200 after stopping the timer in an impressive 1:09.68.
Mawing had a riding hat trick Sunday as he also won the third race with Dream Spotter ($5.20) and the sixth race with Snowbound Sailor ($14.40).
Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Wednesday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
