Racing Resumes Friday At Golden Gate Fields

After a four-day break, thoroughbred racing resumes Friday at Golden Gate Fields.  Post time Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday is 12:45 p.m.

Golden Gate Fields will also race on a Friday-through-Sunday schedule next week before resuming its traditional Thursday-through-Sunday schedule May 1.

Golden Gate Fields made the changes in its racing calendar to coincide – for the most part – with the racing schedule at its sister track in Southern California, Santa Anita.

Santa Anita, which isn’t racing Friday, will wrap up its 2013-2014 winter season with programs on Saturday and Sunday.  Santa Anita will open its 2014 spring meeting on Friday, April 25, and the season runs through June 29.

Golden Gate Fields is 65 days into its 2013-2014 winter/spring season, which runs through June 15.  Things are status quo at the East Bay venue as Hall of Famers Russell Baze and Jerry Hollendorfer own commanding leads in the jockey and trainer standings, respectively.

Baze tops the rider standings with 110 victories.  Juan Hernandez is second with 63 wins and Dennis Carr third with 51.  Hollendorfer leads his colleagues with 48 victories and is followed by Steve Sherman with 29 and Steve Miyadi with 23.

Hollendorfer has an excellent chance to win his first title in Southern California this weekend as he has a three-victory advantage (34-31) over Bob Baffert and John Sadler in the Santa Anita trainer standings heading into the final two days of the meeting.
