Prima Gianna Blitzes Foes In Sprint Feature
Prima Gianna sped to the lead shortly after the start and never looked back en route to posting a 3 1/2-length victory in the $29,174 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.
Relaxing nicely on the front end under jockey Abel Cedillo, Prima Gianna got away with soft fractions of 23.56 and 46.78 while opening up a three-length advantage on her rivals after a half-mile.
Prima Gianna maintained her commanding lead through the stretch and won the six-furlong allowance race for fillies and mares in 1:11.04. Ruby Pumps finished second,
1 1/2 lengths clear of Assure.
Lil Angelina, the 3-2 favorite, finished fourth in the field of five.
Prima Gianna, trained Tim Bellasis and owned by Michael J. Buono, earned $17,400.
A lightly raced 5-year-old mare by Vindication, Prima Gianna has three wins, a second and two thirds in 11 career starts.
Jockey Dennis Carr, who rode four winners Saturday, came back with a riding double Sunday. Carr won the third race with Skyribbon ($5.00) and the eighth with Tasya ($7.40).
