Positive Response Favored At Turfway Park

Northern California’s Positive Response is a 5-to-2 favorite on the morning line to capture the $100,000 John Battaglia Memorial Stakes at Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky, Saturday night.

Positive Response, winner of the California Derby and Gold Rush Stakes at Golden Gate Fields, will face eight rivals in the 1 1/16-mile feature for 3-year-olds.  Positive Response will break from post position six under Bay Area jockey Julien Couton.

Positive Response, trained by William E. Morey, has four wins and two thirds in seven career starts and $163,681 in earnings.   Morey owns Positive Response in partnership with Saul Gevertz, Roger Newman, and Ray Pagano.

Positive Response, a Florida-bred son of Pomeroy, is coming off a third-place finish in the El Camino Real Derby on Feb. 12 at Golden Gate Fields.  A strong effort in the John Battaglia Memorial could earn Positive Response a start in Turfway Park’s showcase event for 3-year-olds, the $500,000 Vinery Spiral Stakes on March 26.

Positive Response will face the following horses in the John Battaglia Memorial: Admiral Perry (5-to-1), Blue Laser (7-to-2), Adulare (8-to1), Night Party (15-to-1), R Fast Cat (8-to-1), Son of Posse (50-to-1), Taptowne (12-to-1), and Twinspired (3-to-1).
