Positive Response Eighth In Vinery Spiral Stakes

Positive Response Eighth In Vinery Spiral Stakes

The Bay Area’s Positive Response finished a disappointing eighth as the 8-to-5 favorite in the $500,000 Vinery Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park Saturday.

Animal Kingdom rallied from last in a field of 11 to win the 1 1/8-mile Spiral by
2 3/4 lengths over Decisive Moment.  Twinspired finished third.  Animal Kingdom was timed in 1:52.32 and paid $8.00.

Positive Response, trained by William E. Morey, was sent straight to the lead by jockey Julien Couton but was pressured on the front end by longshot Son of Posse and Decisive Moment through a half-mile in 46.56 seconds.

Positive Response battled on the lead to the far turn and then tired badly in the stretch.

“It wasn’t our day,” said Morey.  “We were stuck inside a hot pace battle.”

Morey said Positive Reponse returned to his barn in good order.

“He seemed fine, just a little tired after a hard race,” said Morey.

Positive Response, who has been stabled at Turfway Park since the beginning of the month, will be heading back to Golden Gate Fields.

“We’ll bring him back home, give him a short break, see how he is, and go from there,” said Morey.

DOLLAR DAY CARD SUNDAY  --  Golden Gate Fields will present a Dollar Day racing program Sunday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. and general parking, general admission, programs, hot dogs, beers, and sodas are all just a buck apiece.
