Point Of Reference Humbles Rivals In Sprint Feature At GGF

The 5-year-old mare Point of Reference charged from fifth in a field of six to score a decisive victory in the $35,280 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.

Point of Reference, ridden by Inoel Beato, took command in midstretch and drew off to win the six-furlong contest for fillies and mares by 5 1/2 lengths.  Run Suki Run took second by a head over Special Holiday, who claimed third by a neck over Dove Forest.

Frank Lucarelli trains Point of Reference, who clocked a time of 1:10.14 and paid $4.60 as the 6-to-5 favorite.  Point of Reference appears to love racing six furlongs as she has five wins and three thirds in eight tries at the distance.

Point of Reference, a daughter of Benchmark, was bred in Washington by her owners, John R. Jack Jones and Ivor Allan Jones.  Point of Reference earned $19,800 for Thursday’s win and has made $243,137 in 25 career starts.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Friday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
