Pepper Crown Scores Front-Running Victory

Pepper Crown Scores Front-Running Victory

Pepper Crown, rating nicely under jockey Juan Hernandez, posted a front-running victory in the $43,400 McCann’s Mojave allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.

Despite being hounded on the backstretch by 11-1 long shot Irish Art, Pepper Crown relaxed on the lead and cruised through fractions of :51.50 (half-mile) and 1:16.89 (six furlongs).

Hernandez asked Pepper Crown to picked it up at the top of the stretch and the
4-year-old colt spurted away to a three-length advantage.  Running strongly through the final furlong, Pepper Crown held off stretch-running Mobilized to win by a length.

Longview Drive finished a distant third, 3 1/4 lengths behind Mobilized and 1 1/2 lengths in front of 8-5 favorite Battier.  Irish Art checked in last in the field of five.

Pepper Crown completed 1 1/16-miles in 1:47.06 and paid $8.00 as the third wagering choice.  Bred, trained and owned by Alex Paszkeicz, Pepper Crown earned $27,300 for the victory.

A California-bred son of Peppered Cat, Pepper Crown is a consistent performer who has amassed four wins, two seconds and a third in seven career starts and $89,350 in earnings.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Friday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
