Our Nautique, receiving a strong ride from jockey Leslie Mawing, led from start to finish in the $40,540 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.
Our Nautique dug in gamely down the stretch to hold off his rivals and win the one-mile race for 3-year-olds and up by a half-length over Hudson Landing. Slew the Man finished third, a neck behind Hudson Landing and a neck in front of Taif.
A 5-year-old gelding trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Our Nautique won for the third time in his last four starts and for the fourth time in his last six outings. The 8-to-5 favorite, Our Nautique paid $5.40.
New Zealand-bred Our Nautique is owned in partnership by Hollendorfer and Rob Tunnicliffe. Thursday’s victory was worth $24,000 and increased Our Nautique’s earnings to $115,080.
Jockey Juan Hernandez, who was blanked during the first two days of the 2010-2011 meeting, rode three winners Thursday. Hernandez won the first race with Olympic Magic ($9.40), the third with Jakesam ($5.20), and the fifth with Great News ($5.00).
