Northern California Thoroughbred Showcase Will Be Held October 12 At Golden Gate Fields

The first Off The Track Thoroughbred (OTTB) Showcase in California will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, in the barn area at Golden Gate Fields.

The Golden Gate Fields Aftercare Program and CANTER California are partnering on the event, which will include a racehorse retraining seminar and a tour of the stables.
Some 20 to 25 horses, all candidates for second careers in other sporting endeavors such as polo, dressage, hunter/jumper competitions and trail riding, will be presented for sale.

The seminar will begin at 8:30 a.m. and attendees will be able to observe morning workouts and training as well as presentations from professional horsemen.  A midmorning lunch will be provided following the seminar.

The showcase will begin at 11 a.m. and prospective buyers will have the opportunity to walk through the sales barn and meet the horses being offered.  Horses will be shown individually by their handlers, and buyers will be granted an up close look at the equine athletes.  Trainers and veterinarians will be available to answer all questions.

People are invited to come for the seminar, the showcase, or both.  Registration is $15 for the whole day or $5 for the just the showcase.

“We are overwhelmed with the positive response we have already gotten from prospective horse owners and racing fans alike,” said Elizabeth Morey, Director of Thoroughbred Aftercare for Golden Gate Fields.
