New Head Trainer Trujillo Improves To 2-For-3

New Head Trainer Trujillo Improves To 2-For-3

Victor Trujillo, a longtime to assistant to recently-retired trainer Chuck Jenda, is off to a great start as a head trainer.

Trujillo earned his first training victory Friday at Golden Gate Fields when Floating Feather – just his second starter – won the fourth race over favored Checkinuponyou.  Trujillo came right back to score another win Saturday when his 5-year-old mare Summers Peace led from start to finish in the first race.

Trujillo started his first horse Thursday and saw his 5-year-old gelding Hot Chaco finish third in the seventh race after encountering traffic problems in the stretch.  Hot Chaco was moved up to second after the stewards disqualified runner-up Life Is a Rock for interfering with Trujillo’s charge.

Handicappers have backed Trujillo’s runners as Floating Feather paid $6.60 as a 2-to-1 second choice in the betting and Summers Peace paid $3.80 as a heavy 4-to-5 favorite.  Jockey Aaron Gryder rode both winners.
