Moonshine Bay Triumphs In Sprint Feature

Moonshine Bay, runner-up in the Albany Stakes on Feb. 18, came from just off the pace to win the $32,774 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.

Enjoying a perfect trip under jockey Dennis Carr, Moonshine Bay overhauled longshot pacesetter Platinum Rules at the top of the stretch and then held off hard-charging Soldiers Point to score by three-quarters of a length in the six-furlong allowance race for older horses.  Morning Fog finished third.

Moonshine Bay, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, was timed in an impressive 1:09.79 and paid $4.00 as the even-money favorite in a field of six.  The victory was the 13th in 28 career starts for Moonshine Bay, who also has six seconds and four thirds.

Owned in partnership by Hollendorfer, Marvin Kirsner, Al Morrison, and George Todaro, Moonshine Bay earned $18,600 for the win and the payday boosted his career earnings to $208,167.

Baze Takes Off Mounts –  Leading jockey Russell Baze badly bruised his left knee when he was unseated by a horse during morning workouts Sunday.  Baze took off his seven mounts on Sunday’s card and is listed as “day to day” by Golden Gate Fields track physician Dr. David Seftel.

Racing resumes Thursday at Golden Gate Fields and Baze is named to ride six horses on the seven-race program.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
