Moonshine Bay Dominates In Sprint Feature

Moonshine Bay, the lone speed horse in a talented but compact field of five, dominated in the $44,200 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.

Moonshine Bay broke alertly under Dennis Carr and cruised to a clear lead, which he maintained through an opening quarter of a mile in 23.20 and a half-mile in 45.90.  With plenty left for the stretch run, Moonshine Bay easily held off Administer to win the six-furlong allowance race by 1 3/4 lengths in an impressive 1:09.51.

Moonshine Bay was bet down to odds of 4-5 and a paid $3.60 after collecting his fifth win of the year.  A 5-year-old gelding, Moonshine Bay has 15 victories, eight seconds and six thirds in 35 career starts.

Jerry Hollendorfer trains Moonshine Bay and owns the horse in partnership with Marvin Kirsner, Al Morrison and George Todaro.  Sunday’s victory was worth $20,400 and increased Moonshine Bay’s earnings to $276,167.

Golden Gate Fields will kick off the final week of its fall meeting with an eight-race card Thursday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
