Mawing, Hernandez Record Multiple Victories at GGF

     With three of their of top colleagues out of town for the California Cup card at Hollywood Park, jockeys Leslie Mawing and Juan Hernandez dominated the racing at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.

    Mawing won three races and Hernandez won two as the duo accounted for five of the nine races run at the East Bay racetrack.  Meanwhile at Hollywood Park, jockey Russell Baze went 0-for-3, Chad Schvaneveldt went 0-for-1 and Frank Alvarado went 0-for-2.

    Mawing recorded with his riding hat trick with three favorites as he captured the second race with Lil Angelina ($2.40), the fourth with Do What U Dare ($3.60), and the seventh with Johny Bonita ($6.80).

     Hernandez scored his wins in back-to-back races, taking the fifth with Zohan ($8.80) and the sixth with Movie Star R. N. ($6.00).

     Heading into Sunday’s card at Golden Gate Fields, Baze tops the rider standings with 14 wins.  Hernandez is second with 11 victories, Mawing third with 10, Schvaneveldt fourth with seven, and Alvarado fifth with five.

     Golden Gate Fields will turn into “Ghostly Gate Fields” Sunday when it hosts a Halloween Party for families that will feature a pumpkin patch, a haunted house, a costume contest, face painters, bounce houses, and pony rides.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. and the track is also offering $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 hot dogs, $1 beers, $1 sodas, and all the football action via the NFL Sunday Ticket.
