Martinez Enjoys Another Multiple-Win Day At GGF

Jockey Michael Martinez won two races Thursday at Golden Gate Fields to extend his streak of multiple-victory afternoons to four.

Martinez’ hot streak began last weekend when he won four races on Saturday and two on Sunday.  Martinez kicked off this week with a riding double on Wednesday and duplicated that effort Thursday.

Second in the jockey standings with 11 victories, Martinez scored Thursday with Ready for Crowds ($6.20) in the second race and Sand Harbour ($8.60) in the fourth.
Russell Baze, 0-for-5 Thursday, tops the rider standings with 15 wins.

Jockeys Juan Hernandez and Chad Schvaneveldt also rode a pair of winners Thursday.  Hernandez took the first race with Willycan ($10.60) and the sixth with Chief Little Man ($6.00) while Schvaneveldt swept the seventh and eighth races with Stormy Surge ($7.60) and Five Star Fortune ($3.60).

Trainer John. F. Martin also won two races as he saddled Ready for Crowds in the second race and Stormy Surge in the seventh.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Friday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
