Lookin For Jonesy Runs Down Favorites In Final Strides
Lookin for Jonesy, a 9-1 shot ridden by Frank Alvarado, ran down the top two betting choices in the final strides to score an upset victory in the $34,494 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.
Lookin for Jonesy rallied from last in a field of six to win the six-furlong allowance race by a neck over Moojha, the 4-1 second choice. Mooja took second by a head over Justalittleloopy, the heavy 3-5 favorite.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Lookin for Jonesy was timed in 1:10.32 and paid $20.20 to win. The victory was the second in six career starts for Lookin for Jonesy, who earned $22,620 for the ownership group of Thomas Capehart, Richard Jones and William E. Myers, Jr.
Lookin for Jonesy completed a training double for Hollendorfer, who also won the second race with Hot Dixie ($5.00).
Trainer John F. Martin also saddled a pair of winners Sunday. Martin tallied in the fourth race with Gatheratthealter ($3.80) and in the ninth with Irish-bred Chin’n Tonic ($7.60).
Jockey Alejandro Gomez had a riding double as he won the first race with Xcuse Me Monto ($42.80) and the fourth with Gatheratthealter.
