Look Quickly Stays Perfect With Feature Race Win
The precocious filly Look Quickly kept her record perfect Thursday by scoring an authoritative victory in the $35,786 feature race at Golden Gate Fields.
Look Quickly improved to 3-for-3 when she charged from off the pace to win the six-furlong allowance dash for 2-year-olds by five lengths over Southern California shipper Karma King, the 2-5 favorite. El Sacrificio finished third, 6 1/2 lengths behind Karma King.
Look Quickly clocked a time of 1:10.21 under jockey Juan Hernandez and paid $6.40 as the 2-1 second choice in the betting. Look Quickly is trained by William J. Morey, Jr., who also bred the California-bred daughter of Run Away and Hide.
Owned by Morey Family Trust, Look Quickly broke her maiden at Golden Gate Fields in June and then captured the Juan Gonzalez Memorial Stakes at Pleasanton in July. Look Quickly has recorded her wins at three different sprint distances – 4 1/2 furlongs, five furlongs and six furlongs.
The victory aboard Look Quickly in the third race provided some solace for Hernandez, who had his mounts in the first two races disqualified by the track stewards. Hernandez won the first race with Faster Cat, who was disqualified from first and placed last for causing interference on the backstretch.
Hernandez appeared headed to victory in the second race with Colonel Clark, a
2-year-old gelding who cost himself the race in deep stretch when he shifted in and bumped the inside rail hard, losing his stride. Upon bouncing off the rail, Colonel Clark, who finished fourth, interfered with Waltztothewindow, who checked in fifth. Consequently, Colonel Clark was disqualified from fourth and placed fifth behind Waltztothewindow.
Hernandez, who will begin serving a three-day riding suspension on Oct. 27 for an infraction committed last week, will likely have his forced vacation extended following Thursday’s events.
Jockey Dennis Carr recorded a “natural” riding hat trick Thursday, sweeping races fourth through six with Tiz Point ($3.80), Ya Wanna Hug ($13.60) and Argyle Cut ($6.00).
Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Friday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
