Large Field Shaping Up For $100,000 San Francisco Mile

Eight runners, including defending champion Hudson Landing, are already confirmed for Saturday’s $100,000 San Francisco Mile at Golden Gate Fields.

The Grade 3 SF Mile is Northern California’s main event for turf milers and 16 horses were nominated to the feature.  Entries for the race will be taken Wednesday morning.

The following horses, with their riders and trainers in parenthesis, are set to start in the SF Mile: Charlemagne Wood (Abel Cedillo, Neil Drysdale), Coach Bob (William Antongeorgi III, Reina Gonzalez), Control Seeker (Francisco Duran, Keith Nations), Gallant Son (Dennis Carr, Frank Lucarelli), Grand Berry (Alejandro Gomez, Richard Mandella), Hudson Landing (Juan Hernandez, Blaine Wright), Summer Hit (Russell Baze, Jerry Hollendorfer), and Tribal Tribute (Frank Alvarado, Tim McCanna).

Barney Rebel is listed as probable by trainer Dan Blacker.

The SF Mile will feature a high-quality lineup.  Control Seeker, Gallant Son, Grand Berry, and Hudson Landing are all multiple stakes-winners, and Summer Hit and Tribal Tribute both own a stakes victory.

Hudson Landing, a 6-year-old gelding who has won 12 of his 38 starts and $487,648, scored an 8-1 upset in the 2012 SF Mile when he defeated 1-2 favorite Jeranimo by a half-length.  Gallant Son was third.
