Lady Railrider, Antares World Run One-Two In GGF Feature
Lady Railrider outran stablemate Antares World down the stretch to earn a hard-fought victory in the $48,660 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.
Trainer Steve Specht watched his 6-year-old mare Lady Railrider rally along the rail to defeat his 4-year-old filly Antares World by a neck in the 1 1/16-mile test for fillies and mares. Pretty Katherine charged down the middle of the track to take third and was only beaten a head for second.
Lady Railrider and Antares World were coupled in the wagering and the heavily- favored entry went off at odds of 2-to-5. Lady Railrider paid $2.80 after collecting her second straight victory and her ninth win in 25 career starts.
Lady Railrider, who earned $30,420, and Antares World, who banked $10,140 for her runner-up finish, are both owned by their breeders, Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams. Jockey Russell Baze rode Lady Railrider, who was timed in 1:45.62.
Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Sunday. Post time is 12:45 p.m. and the track is offering $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 programs, $1 hot dogs, $1 beers, and $1 sodas.
A fundraising dinner for jockey Michael Martinez will be held following Sunday’s card at the Moose Lodge #550 in San Pablo (13233 San Pablo Ave.). Martinez is paralyzed from the waist down as a result of injuries sustained in a spill last September.
A $20 donation includes dinner and live musical entertainment by Jun Simundo & Band. A raffle and silent auction will also be conducted. A no-host cocktail hour will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
