Kaili Returns From 14-Month Layoff to Improve to 2-For-2
Fourteen months after winning her career debut, Kaili made her second career start Sunday at Golden Gate Fields. The result: another victory.
Kaili, a 3-year-old filly trained by Lloyd Mason, improved to 2-for-2 when she came from just off the pace to win the $32,384 allowance feature by 1 1/4 lengths over Pearloftheorient. Advance Ticket, the 2-to-1 favorite, finished third.
Kaili, who broke her maiden with a smart three-length score at Golden Gate Fields on Aug. 15, 2009, rode the rail to victory Sunday as jockey Kayla Stra kept her inside of her rivals throughout the six-furlong sprint.
Kaili left the starting gate at odds of 10-to-1 – the second-largest price on the tote board – and paid $23.40. Owned and bred by Edward and Theresa DeNike, Kaili is a Kentucky-bred daughter of Grand Slam.
There is no racing Monday or Tuesday at Golden Gate Fields. Racing resumes Wednesday at 12:45 p.m. and there will be a carryover of $17,884 in the Pick Six.
