Jockey Stra Goes 2-For-2 On Opening Day At GGF

Jockey Kayla Stra, who struggled to reach the winner’s circle during Golden Gate Fields’ summer season, got off to a great start at the track’s fall meeting by riding two winners on Wednesday’s opening-day program.

Stra scored with just six of her 91 mounts at the 27-day summer meeting and finished out of the top 10 in the jockey standings.  The 25-year-old native of Australia was perfect on day No. 1 of the 45-day fall session as she went 2-for-2.

Stra took advantage of a pair of live mounts in recording her riding double as she captured the fourth race with even-money favorite Gamblinathepulpit ($4.20) and the featured seventh race with even-money choice See Zo Go ($4.00).

Stra heads into Thursday’s eight-race program tied for first in the jockey standings with Hector Romero, who went 2-for-6 Wednesday.  Romero scored his victories in back-to-back races, taking the fifth with Marine Fog ($10.60) and the sixth with Ladybug Be Lucky ($5.20).

Post time Thursday is 12:45 p.m. and Stra is scheduled to ride a pair of longshots – Ruby Slippers (12-to-1 on the morning line) in the fourth race and Bourne to Romp
(15-to-1) in the sixth.  Romero has three scheduled mounts – Mr Munsey (5-to-1) in the first race, Kentucky Riddler (8-to-5) in the third, and Theman’smasterplan (20-to-1).
