Jockey Schvaneveldt Has Riding Hat Trick At GGF

Veteran jockey Chad Schvaneveldt, on a roll this week at Golden Gate Fields, followed up his two-win Thursday with a three-victory Friday.

Schvaneveldt, 46, rode five horses Friday and had a second and a third to go along with his trio of wins.  In recording his riding hat trick, Schvaneveldt captured the third race with Tommy’s Pick ($4.20), the fourth with Gambling Man ($6.80) and the seventh with Go With Gusto ($4.20).

Schvaneveldt has ridden nine winners through eight days of racing at the 2010 summer meeting and is third in the jockey standings behind Russell Baze (15 wins) and Michael Martinez (13).

Martinez rode two winners Friday, the fifth consecutive racing day in which he scored multiple victories.  Martinez captured the sixth race with Miss Olivia K ($8.80) and the eighth with Park Time Luck ($4.60).

Jockey Juan Hernandez and trainer Steve Sherman teamed up to win a pair of races. The duo took the second race with Cutting Fame ($4.20) and the fifth with Don’t Reiterate ($6.80).

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields throughout the Labor Day weekend.  Post time Saturday, Sunday and Monday is 12:45 p.m.
