Jockey Martinez Keeps Racking Up The Wins

Jockey Michael Martinez, winning multiple races on a card for the sixth consecutive racing day, had a riding triple Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.

Martinez captured the first race with Powers Lilsis ($4.60), the third with Fancy Summer ($13.20) and the eighth with The Tour Director ($13.20).  The hat trick moved Martinez, who has 16 wins at the nine-day-old summer meeting, into a tie with Russell Baze for the top spot in the jockey standings.

William E. Morey, who entered the day tied with Steve Sherman for first place in the trainer standings, took sole possession of first by winning two races Saturday.  Morey took the fifth race with Doubloon City ($4.20) and the seventh with Checkinuponyou ($4.40).

Morey holds a 10-9 advantage in the standings over Sherman, who sent out one winner Saturday – Stormy Storyteller ($4.00) in the second race.

Sunday is “Dollar Day” at Golden Gate Fields with parking, admission, racing programs, hot dogs, beers and sodas all costing just a buck.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. and Busta Groove will provide live musical entertainment between races.
