Jockey Baze, Trainer Sherman Each Win Pair Of Races At GGF

Jockey Russell Baze and trainer Steve Sherman each recorded a pair of victories Sunday at Golden Gate Fields.

Baze won back-to-back races, taking the third with Perfect Fashion ($4.80) and the fourth with City Expenses ($4.20).  Baze, the leading rider at the fall meeting with 36 victories, took off his final two mounts on the card due to a bruised right thumb.

Baze escaped serious injury in the sixth race with his mount, Reinvent, crashed through the breakaway inner rail on the turf course while leading in midstretch.  Reinvent stayed on his feet throughout the ordeal and also appeared to come out of the accident relatively unscathed.

Baze came back to ride the seventh race – he finished sixth aboard Lady Wiggles – but then opted to sit out the eighth and ninth races.

Sherman teamed with Baze to take the fourth race with City Expenses and then hooked up with Kevin Krigger to capture the eighth race with Outdoorsman Gene ($13.20).  Sherman is second in the trainer standings with 18 victories.

Live racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
