Jeranimo Among 20 Nominated To San Francisco Mile

Jeranimo, an 8-year-old horse who has won eight graded stakes and earned more than $1.5 million, is among the 20 runners nominated to the $100,000 San Francisco Mile at Golden Gate Fields.

Northern California’s top turf race, the Grade 3 SF Mile will be run Saturday, April 26.  Fans attending the track that day will receive a free SF Mile T-shirt.

Jeranimo, winner of two Grade 1 stakes (2013 Eddie Read at Del Mar and 2012 Shoemaker Mile at Hollywood Park), is one of eight stakes-winners nominated to the SF Mile.  The others are Hudson Landing, Just Win Baby, Lakerville, Longview Drive, Lucayan, Outside Nashville, Snowday, and Summer Hit

Jeranimo is 1-for-2 this year with the victory coming in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes at Santa Anita on Jan. 4.  In rallying from last to score by 1 1/4 lengths, Jeranimo became the first horse to win the 1 1/8-mile turf stakes three times.  Jeranimo scored his previous San Gabriel victories in 2010 and 2013.

Jeranimo, trained by Michael Pender, will be taking his second swing at the SF Mile.  Owned by B.J. Wright and Robert LaPenta, Jeranimo finished second (beaten a half-length) to Hudson Landing in the 2012 SF Mile.

Hudson Landing, a 7-year-old gelding trained by Blaine Wright, has won three stakes at Golden Gate Fields – the 2010 Alcatraz, the 2012 SF Mile and 2012 All American.  Owned by Chappell Alpine Farms LLC, Hudson Landing earned $531,188 in 45 career starts.

Summer Hit, a 5-year-old gelding from the Jerry Hollendorfer barn, was beaten a neck by Tigah while running second in last year’s SF Mile.  Summer Hit shook off the tough beat and went on to win three stakes in 2013 – the All American Stakes and Berkeley Handicap at Golden Gate Fields and the Harry F. Brubaker at Del Mar.  Summer Hit is owned in partnership by Hollendorfer and John Carver.
