Jaylo Marino Wins Again On Tapeta
Jaylo Marino, a gray gelding that always hits hard on Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic Tapeta racing surface, rallied from just off the pace to win Wednesday’s $20,900 feature.
Trained by Steve Specht and ridden by Frank Alvarado, Jaylo Marino defeated Castle Dermot by 1 3/4 lengths in the six-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up. De Car Guy, the 3-to-2 favorite, finished third.
Jaylo Marino has made 10 starts on Tapeta and has recorded four wins, two seconds and three thirds. Owned and bred by Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams, Jaylo Marino earned $12,000 for Wednesday’s victory and paid $13.80 to those that backed him at the mutuel windows.
Jockey Russell Baze rode a pair of winners Wednesday. The only jockey or trainer with multiple victories on the card, Baze took the third race with Life Is a Rock ($17.80) and the eighth with Draw Two Buck ($3.40)
Racing will continue at Golden Gate Fields through the holiday week with eight-race programs on Thursday and Friday and nine-race cards Saturday and Sunday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
