Jakesam Among 10 In San Felipe Stakes
Jakesam, second in both the California Derby and El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields, is among the 10 entrants in Saturday’s $250,000 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita.
A Grade 2 event for 3-year-olds, the San Felipe is a 1 1/16-mile race that serves as a steppingstone to the $1 million Santa Anita Derby on April 9. Jakesam, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, will break from post position eight in the San Felipe and be ridden by Patrick Valenzuela.
Comma to the Top, who finished a disappointing fourth as the 1-to-2 favorite in the El Camino Real Derby, is also in the San Felipe lineup. Comma to the Top had won five straight races – including the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity – prior to flopping in the El Camino Real Derby.
Hollendorfer will have horses in both features at Santa Anita Saturday as he’ll start Hemera in the Grade 1 $300,000 Santa Margarita Invitational, a 1 1/8-mile test for fillies and mares.
