Hudson Landing Sharp In Work For San Francisco Mile

Hudson Landing Sharp In Work For San Francisco Mile

The 7-year-old gelding Hudson Landing tuned up for the $100,000 San Francisco Mile by working four furlongs in 48 3/5 handily Saturday morning at Golden Gate Fields.

A Grade 3 turf stakes for 3-year-olds and up, the SF Mile will be run next Saturday.  Hudson Landing is one of eight runners already confirmed for Northern California’s top grass race.

Jockey Juan Hernandez guided Hudson Landing through his workout, which ranked fourth best among 36 at the distance.

“He breezed good today,” said trainer Blaine Wright.  “I think he’s going into the race the right way.  He seems to be sharp.”

Hudson Landing is a four-time stakes winner who has earned $531,188.  In his most recent start on March 30, Hudson Landing returned from a layoff of nearly five months to finish a hard-charging second in a one-mile allowance race on Tapeta.   He was beaten three-quarters of a length by Pepnic, who is also set to start in the SF Mile.

“For his first race in awhile, I thought he ran well,” said Wright.  “I think you had to be pretty pleased with the effort.”

Hudson Landing will be seeking his second victory in the SF Mile as he took the feature in 2012.  Hudson Landing will also be looking to snap a 10-race losing streak as he hasn’t visited the winner’s circle since capturing the Grade 3 All American Stakes on Nov. 23, 2012.

Entries for the SF Mile will be taken Wednesday morning.  On the confirmed starters list with Hudson Landing and Pepnic are China Girl Lover, Horizontalyspeakin, Longview Drive, Pepper Crown, Summer Hit and Tribal Jewel.  Lakerville, Segway, and Si Sage are listed as possible starters.
