Hollendorfer Still Hunting For 6,000th Career Victory

The patience of Jerry Hollendorfer is being severely tested this week as the Hall of Fame trainer guns for his 6,000th career victory.

Hollendorfer boosted his win total to 5,998 last Sunday when he won four races and it appeared to be a slam dunk that he’d reach 6,000 wins this week.  However, Hollendorfer is 0-for-17 with his starters this week.

The Hollendorfer barn started 10 horses Saturday – six at Golden Gate Fields and four at Del Mar – and failed to reach the winner’s circle.  The powerful stable will try again Sunday when it sends out five runners at Golden Gate Fields and one at Del Mar.

Hollendorfer’s hopes at Golden Gate Fields Sunday are: Sea Rascal (5-to-1 on the morning line) in the first race, Dove Forest (6-to-1) and Whispering Express (7-to-5) in the third race, and World Way (8-to-5) and Red Danger (6-to-1) in the eighth race.  His lone entrant at Del Mar is Dr. Smarty Jack (10-to-1) in the eighth race.

Post time at Golden Gate Fields Sunday is 12:45 p.m. and the track is offering $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 programs, $1 hot dogs, $1 beers, and $1 sodas.  There will also be a free concert by Busta-Grove.

Sunday is Pacific Classic Day at Del Mar and post time at the seaside track is 1 p.m.  Post time for the $1 million Pacific Classic, the ninth race on an 11-race program, is
5:18 p.m.
