Hollendorfer Snaps Losing Streak, Now One Win Away From 6,000

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer snapped a long losing streak and moved to the brink of 6,000 victories when he won the first race at Golden Gate Fields Friday with Going for a Spin.

Hollendorfer, who had gone winless with 28 starters since recording win No. 5,998 on Aug. 21, watched Going for a Spin provide him with victory No. 5,999 when she scored a front-running victory in a 1 1/16-mile turf race.  Going for a Spin paid $5.40.

Hollendorfer had two chances at getting No. 6,000 Friday as he had Tio Vic entered in the seventh race at Golden Gate Fields and Sahara Sky in the sixth race at Del Mar.  Tio Vic finished third and Sahara Sky ran seventh.

Hollendorfer has eight chances to reach his milestone victory Saturday as he will start three horses at Golden Gate Fields and five at Del Mar, including Killer Graces in the Grade 1 $250,000 Del Mar Debutante.

Post time at Golden Gate Fields Saturday is 12:45 p.m. and the track is hosting a gourmet food truck festival that will offer fans the opportunity to sample the best eats on wheels, including duck tacos, Cuban sandwiches and steak chow mien.  Post time at Del Mar is 2 p.m.
